Piste View began back in 2004 with a high end (and by today’s’ standards bulky) camcorder that took great tripod footage and was subsequently converted into an early helmet cam via kayak helmet and lunchbox. Neck trauma followed so the existing camera was tethered to a bullet camera and whilst the camera operators had better physical condition there was a noticeable reduction in the quality of the film.

Tweaks followed before a wholesale revision came about taking us in an entirely different direction for film capture. Engineering, bio-mechanics and electronics all played a part in reaching the goal of film capture in this most challenging environment and in 2011 Piste View arrived. The ability to capture in high definition the experience of riding on snow down a mountain face has for 7 years captivated us. In 2011 the pieces of the puzzle fell into place and we are now capable of capturing and sharing this unique experience. The interim years produced novel footage but it was not until 2011 that we finally created the ability to approximate the downhill experience on film. The time scale is both evidence of the complexities of the task as well as testament to the worthiness of the goal.
